Neurodevelopmental Assessments in Pretoria
Every child develops at their own pace, but persistent difficulties with speech, learning, movement,
behaviour or social interaction may require further assessment. I provide comprehensive
neurodevelopmental assessments for babies, toddlers and children at my rooms in Montana Park at the
Netcare Montana Hospital in Pretoria.
An assessment may be recommended when a child has delayed milestones, limited speech, difficulty
concentrating, poor coordination, unusual behaviour, learning challenges, problems interacting with
others or a loss of previously acquired skills.
What Does the Neurodevelopmental Assessment Include?
The assessment brings with a discussion that will include, the mothers condition during pregnancy, birth
history, neonatal period, developmental milestones, family history, schooling and overall child’s behavior
over the years. The assessment may include age-appropriate play, and observation of communication,
behaviour, movement, attention and problem-solving. I also perform a comprehensive medical and
neurological examination. The duration and any additional tests depend on your child’s needs.
Conditions We May Identify
The assessment may identify concerns associated with global developmental delay, autism spectrum
disorder, ADHD, speech and language delay, learning difficulties, intellectual disability, motor delay,
developmental coordination difficulties or cerebral palsy. Hearing, vision, sleep, genetic or other medical
factors affecting development may also be considered.
Following the assessment, I explain the findings and develop an individual care plan. Where appropriate,
referrals may be made to an occupational therapist, speech therapist, physiotherapist, psychologist or
other specialist.
